Facebook is known as a social platform. But what does that really mean, and how does it affect you? Electrical and Computer Engineer Dan Reich wrote a great article contemplating Facebook and comparing it to previous programs that have been foundational to the development of the web.
First of all we have to think about the way that Facebook is set up. It is a data base which has incorporated applications, news feeds, and crosses many digital platforms. They have maintained a closed platform, but allow users to maintain their identity across all of it.
The benefit to businesses is the fact that Facebook is set up to facilitate a social and business relationship without having a large number of blocks which keep people from connecting and communicating with your company. There are security measures in place to keep the social interaction safe to all parties, and the bottom line is that as it continues to grow it will allow an increase of interaction with people from all over the entire web.
