Is your website attracting leads or driving them away?
If your website isn’t working for you, it’s likely that you’re making one or more of these unforgivable mistakes. They’re “unforgivable” not because I’m going to hold it against you (unless you need a kick in the butt—then I’m you’re girl) but because they’re so easy to fix that you have no excuse.
#1 – Hidden contact information
Your contact information should be prominently displayed at the top of each page on your website. That’s phone number, email and a call to action.
If the bride or groom has to scroll down to the bottom of the page and read the teeny, tiny print in order to call you…even if they’re required to click to your Contact page to make the connection, you’re losing leads.
#2 – Not communicating your who, what and where within 10 seconds
When a visitor lands on your website, they should immediately understand what you do, who you do it for, and where you’re located (if you have a local business.)
Many wedding business websites are confusing. Is this a florist or a wedding planner? A DJ or a musician?
Tell people immediately with your images and a short tagline exactly what you do and where you do it, to let them know they’re in the right place.
#3 – Broken links
If a bride or groom lands on your website and clicks on a dead link, it’s not just the link that appears broken—it’s you. This experience of unreliability creates distrust.
Create a regular habit of checking the links on your site to find and fix the broken ones before it costs you business.
#4 – A cluttered menu
Make it easy for your website visitors to find what they’re looking for. Clear menu navigation with no more than 5-7 items is essential.
Each menu title should clearly communicate what they’ll find on the page. Clever titles impair your results. It’s “Reviews”(not “Praise”) and “Pricing” (not “Investment.”)
#5 – Not including pricing info.
Whether you like it or not, brides and grooms want to find some indication of pricing on your website. If they can’t find it, they’ll often move on to the competition.
You don’t have to give all your pricing details; a realistic starting price or range of prices is sufficient to move them a step closer to contacting you.
#6 – Not being mobile friendly
On average, 60% of your website visitors are using mobile devices to access the internet.
If they have to scroll wildly left and right in order to see your page, you’ll lose them. You might as well those flush dollars down the toilet.
Test your website display on various mobile devices (Quirkfly offers a free tool for this) to make sure it looks just as good and is just as easy to use on mobile as it is on your desktop.
#7 – Poor navigation
Website visitors should be able to easily find what they’re looking for and determine how to get there.
Photo galleries or videos that open into new windows, scroll bars that don’t work…the more you frustrate your visitors, the quicker you lose them.
#8 – Outdated information
When was the last time you updated your site?
If a bride or groom reads reviews all dated from 2003, your website is outdated and they’re left wondering what you’ve been doing since then.
Check your specials and services pages to make sure the contents are still relevant. Offers that have expired and out of date information makes you look like a dolt.
#9 – No links to social media profiles
Today’s couples want to connect with their vendors through various mediums. Make it easy for them to find and connect with you on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and any other social networks they frequent.
A professional wedding business is expected to have a social media profile. Don’t disappoint.
#10 – Orphaned pages
This is an extension of good navigation. Any page a bride or groom visits should have the same menu and header as the rest of your site with a clear path back to the home page.
If you abandon a page so that it’s essentially a dead end, not only does this create a poor user experience, it’s bad for your SEO.
