4 Sneaky Ad Tricks to Book More Weddings

Eventective. Thumbtack. Respond.

Love ‘em or hate ‘em — wedding pros are handing over their hard-earned dollars in the hope of cheap leads.

But do they work?

Your success with leads from these services will vary widely, but most wedding pros find these to be very poor quality leads.

You can expect a response from only about 1 out of 100 emails at best, as reported by most wedding pros. Yes, it’s that bad!

3 Things to Know About Wedding Lead Sites

Do brides and grooms use these sites? Yes.

Will they send you quality leads. Maybe.

Here’s what you need to know going in:

  1. These sites focus on delivering a price quote, which tends to generate more budget-oriented rather than quality-oriented leads.
  2. These couples aren’t reaching out to you specifically, so they are “cold” and unqualified.
  3. You pay per lead, whether or not they book you.

A lead generation service can send you leads, but you might not book them because:

  • The leads are not a good match for your business: wrong budget, style or personality.
  • Your website drives them away.
  • Your follow up is ineffective.
  • Your sales presentation is crappy.

To get the highest quality leads, attract them yourself through highly targeted relationships, content and marketing.

That’s what makes Facebook Ads so awesome!

What about other wedding advertising sites, like WeddingWire and The Knot? Do they work?

Again, it’s really going to depend on your market and how you work them.

However, there are a few tricks you can use to get an edge on the competition.

4 Sneaky Tricks to Get More Leads From Your Ad Listings

#1 – Use something OTHER than the name of your business in your listing name.

When creating a listing, most wedding pros label it the name of their business. And that seems to make sense because it’s your listing.

But that’s also what everyone else is doing — which means you won’t stand out.

Make your listing name as compelling as any headline. Make it click-worthy.

Here’s one example:

This listing name begins with the DJ’s radio station. It starts with “106.1 Kiss FM” — and it gets more clicks than other other listing in his area.

Why? Couples could be clicking through because they recognize the radio station. Or it could be just because it’s the only one that starts with a number.

One thing we know: it stands out because it’s DIFFERENT.

#2 – Make your thumbnail look like a playable video.

This is a truly sneaky one, and not all listing sites will let you do it. (WeddingWire does, by the way.)

People are trained to click on videos. Make your listing photo look like a video and it means more clicks…and more leads.

Compare these two ads side by side. Which do you think is getting more click-thrus?

Warning: if you make your thumbnail look like a video, you better have a real video waiting on the other side. Otherwise, you’ll look like a liar.

#3 – Use video and images with testimonials inside your listing.

Video testimonials work to get leads because of the psychological principle of Social Proof — the more couples rave about your services, the more new couples are influenced to hire you.

Use testimonials as much as possible: in your description, as video, even on your images.

This is one way to sneak reviews into your images…

#4 – Get more reviews!

This isn’t exactly sneaky, but it’s super effective, for the reasons we just mentioned.

Listings with more than 10 reviews get 106% more clicks! Get as many reviews on these listings as you possibly can.

Get creative: have the bride, the groom, the parents AND the bridal party all submit reviews of the wedding. Why not?
