Urgent Pinterest Update for Wedding Pros

Just last week Pinterest introduced a new feature you need to know about: Pinterest business accounts.

While there really aren’t any benefits to having a “business” account versus a “personal” one right now, if you’re already using your Pinterest account for your business, you need to convert it to a business account as soon as possible.

Here’s why:

Pinterest updated their terms of service to now require that any account being used for commercial purposes must be a business account.

That means, just like with Facebook, that if you’re using your personal account for business purposes, they can shut you down. It’s not likely they’re going to do that any time soon…it wouldn’t be very fair since they just made the announcement…but if you value your Pinterest account, I’d say it’s better safe than sorry.

How to Convert to a Pinterest Business Account

  1. Go to this link and login to your Pinterest account.
  2. Follow the instructions to fill in your company name and type of business.
  3. Hit “save” and you’re all set!

Keep your eyes on Pinterest for what comes next. The stats report (depending on the source) that 80-97% of Pinterest users are women, and wedding planning is one of the top uses for Pinterest.

The brides are there, and with the new addition of Pinterest business accounts, it’s likely that you’ll be able to purchase advertising or perhaps even “sponsored pins” in the future to promote your wedding business even more effectively.

I’m dying to know… Are you using Pinterest for your wedding business? What do you think about it?

Whether They Follow You Or Not, Brides Expect To See You On Facebook

Over the last few years the look of marketing has drastically changed. People have gone from using phone books and listening to radio and TV ads and have switched to checking out websites and looking up companies on Facebook. It’s not that TV, radio ads and phone book listings are irrelevant, the actual issue is that the majority of consumers expect your business to be active online, and if you aren’t it can be a huge red flag to potential customers.

The movement behind the switch in expectations: The truth is that once Amazon really caught on people got used to finding out in-depth information and reviews in an easy to find format. They want to know what you are about, and what other people think of you. They can’t find this out in an ad directly from you. On top of that, reviews and information online tends to be written in a much more interesting format. People don’t want to just take your word for it; they want to know they are making the best decision possible.

So why do brides expect to see you on Facebook? In part it’s because in the last year wedding businesses have started to get the picture that people want to see actual images of their products. Facebook is a no pressure, easy to navigate place where brides can check out your work while they are catching up on the news with friends and family. Essentially you are putting your wedding business on Facebook in the same place where brides hang out. Like It Or Hate It Google+ Is Great For Your Business

You might not like Google+ for business; in fact you might even hate it. Or you might have jumped on the bandwagon right away and love it to pieces. But like it or not, Google+ will do things for your search standings that nothing else can possibly accomplish. Getting used to any new platform takes time, but when it’s something that can benefit your business it’s better to start using it sooner than later.

Google+ is obviously connected to Google which means if you post an event, or have a business page on Google+ it will boost your ranking in search results. On top of that, Google+ was specifically designed to give you benefits that other social networks don’t have. For instance you can set up an online event and stream it live to your viewers directly through your Google+ page. How cool is that? On top of that +1ing something on Google plus will automatically show up in search results, meaning the more people who +1 you, the more people will know you are worth looking into. For more information on what Google+ can do check out this article by Aki Libo-on.

How To Capture A Brides Interest On Facebook

If you already use Facebook for keeping up with friends you probably have a bit of an idea of what is involved in writing a good Facebook post. However business pages are constantly working on getting better returns for their time, which means finding better ways to build interest in their brand.

Lawrence has some brilliant pointers on his blog tofurious. He points out something that is a very typical issue with wedding businesses on Facebook. When you post you get a lot more interest and interaction when you use a picture. Not that you always have to use a picture with your posts, but when you do it is the thing that makes your post stand out in a brides news feed. Facebook users are used to taking more time looking at pictures than reading updates. Don’t just use any picture though. Use one that illustrates the point, and is good quality. The quality of the pictures that you use is a direct reflection of the quality of your business, at least in a brides mind. What do you think? Have you used pictures with your posts, and if so have you seen an increase in interest?

Is A Facebook Group Beneficial For A Wedding Business?

Once you’ve created a thriving Facebook page the next step is to create a group. The benefit of having a group comes down to creating a place that allows for more personal interaction. While a Facebook page is focused on promoting your wedding brand, a group gives you a great place to share advice, connect brides, and generally create a friendly place where brides can interact with you as a person, not just a business. For more ideas on how to use Facebook groups for business check out this article by Amy Porterfield.

Large businesses use a group for ongoing interaction with their clients, enabling them to turn one time buyers into long term clients. The benefit for a wedding business isn’t quite a simple. While it might be helpful for Photographers who shoot more than just weddings, it might not be quite as beneficial for someone who sells custom wedding favors, or a wedding planner. What do you think? Would a Facebook group be beneficial for your wedding business, or a waste of time?

Why You Want To Use Facebook Promoted Posts

With every program out there you have the option of just using the basics, or using the program to the max. Facebook is no different. One of the easy to overlook perks you have access to on your Facebook wedding business page is promoted posts.

What are these? Well as Lawrence Chan points out on his blog, essentially they are the regular posts or updates which you posted and then marked as “promoted.” Once the post has been promoted it will show up in the news feed of your followers in the same mix as their friends updates. Why this is important to you as a wedding business owner is that it increases exposure to your Facebook business page, and therefore to your business. Brides will “Like” a lot of wedding businesses while they are planning a wedding and promoting your posts is a way to keep your company in front of her as a viable option. Have you used Facebook promoted posts and seen an increase of interest in your page?

The Biggest Tip To Getting Social Media Working For Your Business

If you’ve ever wondered how on earth companies get good results using social media you aren’t alone. Seeing good results comes down to a couple of different things according to the article by Melissa Miller. Social media takes work, and therefore it takes time. Businesses that only spend an hour or less a week on social media are wasting their time. The only way to see good results is to commit the time and money into building a successful marketing campaign, and then keeping up with it. For a small business this means you should probably plan on spending at least 5 hours a week getting things set up and running.

Many people try to tell you that using social media is a free way to market your business. That simply isn’t true. Even though the main commitment is time that still is an important cost. The best way to get a successful social media campaign going is to block out a bare minimum of 5 hours a week, preferably 1 hour a day. Then spend that time setting up your page, posting, replying to those who post on your page, interacting, and setting up Facebook Ads (and as a side note here, $100 per month is going to waste your money. Go big or don’t use it). It isn’t impossible to make social media work for your wedding business, you just have to take it seriously and commit to it. What do you think?

The Pros and Cons Of Facebook Sponsored Posts For A Wedding Business

There is a ton of Buzz around Facebook in regards to Sponsored posts so here is the news on them. A sponsored post isn’t just a regular status update coming from your wedding business Facebook page. Instead it’s a blending of a status post and paid advertising that allows your post to show up on more of your followers walls.

Does this benefit you? According to Christine Shivecharan the main businesses that will be able to use and benefit from Facebook sponsored posts are those with at least 400 followers. If you are one of those businesses you have a great tool for getting your voice heard on a daily basis by your followers. If not, well you either need to find a way to get more followers or stick to normal Facebook marketing. So what do you think? Is this a great new tool from Facebook, or just another waste of time?

How To Boost Interaction With Your Wedding Business On Social Media Sites

If you are ready to give up on social media because of a lack of interaction on your page hold back for a bit. While you may be doing everything correctly the hard truth is that even the big names can have trouble getting interaction going on their page.

So what makes a difference between a business that gets a ton of interaction and those that don’t? First off, don’t confuse interaction with interest. You might have a ton of readers who are keeping up with what you post and just don’t comment on it. If you still have a feeling like you are doing something wrong and are having trouble getting likes Kevin Daum recommends that you slow down when you are working on your posts. It’s easy to write something and send it out without considering whether it makes sense and would encourage any form of excitement or interaction.

Avoid posting about the basics like “Holding an outdoor wedding? Consider getting a backup location in case of weather issues.” While there may be a few brides who never thought about that before they aren’t going to respond to the post, and it certainly won’t motivate anyone to Like or follow you. Spice it up by sharing tasteful wedding blooper videos, and semi-controversial questions like “Are tan suits replacing black suites for weddings?” For the wedding pointers tap into major mistakes that you’ve seen brides do and post “Don’t do A unless you want B.” What do you think, would changing the way you are posting change the type of interaction you see on social media?

How To Avoid Your Wedding Business Past Biting You From Behind

If you don’t want your wedding business past to come up and bite you from behind then it’s best to avoid the mistakes that create that kind of past. Cast in point; don’t post anything on your website or on social media sites when you are drunk. Remember that once something is online, it stays online. It doesn’t matter who you are or how large a cleanup crew you have, there is no way to guarantee that the information you posted is gone for good.

No one likes having mistakes in their past that can mess with their business future. But what you might not realize is that often it’s the small mistakes that create the biggest havoc. In their article The Young Entrepreneur Council on inc.com recommends making sure to always keep your information in the about me, and contact sections up to date. These places are often where people go first, and the last thing you want is for brides, or even worse those you are networking with to get outdated information. Not only does it look bad, it can lead to your having to honor problematic business practices that you have moved past. What do you think?
