Why You Need To See Your Business Like Your Brides See It

There is a lot of pressure in business to “get ahead.” While you do want to build a successful wedding business, you also need to take time to switch from looking at your business from the perspective of business owner to the perspective of a client. You might do great at what you do, and might have the highest quality product, but that isn’t all that a bride sees.

I’ve run into some business owners who thought they were the best people on the planet and ran their business in the best possible way. The problem is that often they are making at least one serious mistake in how they dealt with their clients.

When you write an email take a minute to think about what you would think if you received that email from someone else. Does it make sense? Is it succinct and easy to understand? Do you sound nice, or are you coming across as snippy? Apply this same process to everything you do. No matter how great of a person you are it is possible to make a mistake in the way that you handle something in a way that will turn people off. How To Avoid Your Wedding Business Past Biting You From Behind

If you don’t want your wedding business past to come up and bite you from behind then it’s best to avoid the mistakes that create that kind of past. Cast in point; don’t post anything on your website or on social media sites when you are drunk. Remember that once something is online, it stays online. It doesn’t matter who you are or how large a cleanup crew you have, there is no way to guarantee that the information you posted is gone for good.

No one likes having mistakes in their past that can mess with their business future. But what you might not realize is that often it’s the small mistakes that create the biggest havoc. In their article The Young Entrepreneur Council on inc.com recommends making sure to always keep your information in the about me, and contact sections up to date. These places are often where people go first, and the last thing you want is for brides, or even worse those you are networking with to get outdated information. Not only does it look bad, it can lead to your having to honor problematic business practices that you have moved past. What do you think?

How To Deal With Mistakes Before They Happen

Destroyed_CakeMistakes happen. It’s a natural part of life, and no matter how hard you try you can’t make everything go perfectly all the time. So how do you prepare and deal with things when they go wrong? Hopefully it’s not by beating yourself up, or destroying the instrument you used when you made the mistake.

Dealing with mistakes in a wedding business is no fun. It might be something little, or something big, but it sets you back in your productivity, and if it’s a big enough mistake, it can cost you money and business. The first step is to make sure that you backup all of your information. That means if you are rebuilding your website do it off the server and retain the original version of your website until the new version is ready to launch. Depending on your business you might need backups of your back ups. Meaning a digital backup and a hard copy back up. This doesn’t just apply to the computer however. If you’ve created the perfect invitation, or taken the perfect photograph, keep the original with notes on how you did it so that you can re-produce it. Don’t get rid of the original.

The second thing you need to do is to think through how you can avoid the mistake in the first place as Sacha Chua points out in her blog. As I heard often growing up, you don’t want to shoot yourself in the foot. Think things though before you do them to make sure that your plan is safe, and that you are in the right frame of mind to do it. What do you think? How do you deal with mistakes when they happen?

How To Handle It When You Make A Mistake In Your Wedding Business

PanickingMistakes happen. This is something that I remind myself of over and over when something goes wrong. Making a mistake just means that you are human, that you are learning and it is a good reminder that you aren’t superman.

Instead of letting the mistake freak you out and make you want to hit your head against a brick wall (which won’t help anything) give yourself time to react, calm down and then think through what went wrong, why it went wrong, and how to keep it from happening again. It is your humanity which builds relationships and allows brides to connect with you so when mistakes happen be glad that they happened, learn from them and move forward. Make sure to read the article by Margaret Heffernan on celebrating mistakes that you make. What do you think?
