How To Get Things Done To Create A Successful Wedding Business

I don’t know about you but there are times when I have something to do; only I have no idea of where to start, let alone how to reach the end goal. The thing is, in order to get something done; we have to have to know the how to get it done.

No matter whether you are right brained or left brained you need to have imagination to find a way to do something. In our case it’s how to build a successful wedding business. There are a lot of facets of what you need to do to be successful, and what is required to build a thriving business. However, without an environment that encourages creativity and the ability to focus, it’s going to be hard to figure out what to do next.

For me, the things that help me stay focused and creative are a clean work area, and a live plant. The clean workspace is the easy part for me. The live plant, well let’s just say I tend to have trouble keeping them alive and am on the second plant this year. Take time to think about what will help you stay focused and creative in your work space. The Fate of Your Wedding Business Depends On This One Thing…

Most wedding businesses are doomed.

Jake worked for a communications company for years, and he hated it. He’d always been really good with video, so he started a wedding videography business on the side to pursue his passion.

He worked REALLY hard. Not only on his baby video business, but at his day job, too. He was raking in the money and life was good.

Except…he had no time to spend with his family. He was exhausted all the time. Going in to that 9-5 job just got harder and harder, until one day he took the leap and QUIT.

Jake went off on his own and absolutely poured himself into that videography business. He was working 14 hour days, shooting videos, editing them, meeting with clients. This guy was talented and his customers loved him.

Except…he had no time to spend with his family. He was so exhausted that he began to hate the video work he’d once loved to do. He started dreaming about the days of punching a time clock because at least he had “off hours” back then.

Eventually, he closed up his videography business and took a job working for another company, breaking his back for them instead of himself.

Predictions for the Future of Your Wedding Business

Statistics say…

  • By the end of the first year, 40% of small businesses will go out of business. Department of Commerce
  • Within five years, more than 80% will FAIL. Department of Commerce
  • More than 600,000 US small businesses close their doors every year. Small Business Administration

The odds of succeeding are stacked against us from the start. But we’re going to be Wedding Business Superheroes and prove them all wrong. Of course, we are. We wouldn’t be in this if we thought we were going to fail, would we?

So what happened to Jake? Why didn’t his business make it?

Jake wanted to create more money, freedom and time in his life. He thought that running his own business and being “the boss” would make that happen.

Jake had talent, drive, and nobody worked harder. Unfortunately, he forgot something that will keep you from achieving what you want every single time. While he changed his work, his career and his responsibilities…he didn’t change himself.

You CAN build a successful wedding business, and it all hinges on one critical thing…

“If your business is to change–as it must continuously change to thrive–you must change first. If you are unwilling to change, your business will never be capable of giving you want you want.” – Michael E. Gerber, The E-Myth: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About It

Change is one of the scariest things out there. We desperately want change on the outside, then we do everything we can to fight against changing ourselves.

If you want different results, you have to change what you’re doing. In order to change what you do, you have to change who you are.

So often we think that getting a new job or starting a business is going to change the results we get in life. But it won’t. Not unless we change ourselves first.

Jake switched jobs, but he didn’t change himself. He continued to work long hours, refused to delegate or outsource, and took on everything himself. As a result, he recreated the exact same miserable, stuck situation he started out with.

As I’m reading The E-Myth…highly recommended reading for ANY wedding business entrepreneur…I’m evaluating my own stuck areas and realizing that if I want the outside to change, I have no choice but to change the inside.

Take stock of yourself for a moment and answer these questions:

Where are you stuck with your wedding business?

Are you willing to start the change necessary to bring about the success you’re longing for?

You might not know everything you need to do to make that change happen, but you know the first step. It’s usually something you’ve been putting off.

Take a small step towards that change today. The fate of your wedding business depends on it.

Tenacity and A Diverse Background Help Build A Successful Wedding Business

While a normal career background isn’t going to hurt you in becoming a successful entrepreneur, a more varied background is more likely to be helpful according to an article by Jon Burgstone. What exactly does this mean for you?

An entrepreneur faces a lot of different challenges. They have to know how to do every single aspect of their business, and need a strong backbone to keep going in the face of major challenges. When you have a background of more complex experiences it makes building a business easier for you to handle.

But what if you don’t have that in your background? Does that mean that it is likely that you will fail building a successful wedding business? Absolutely not. Just realize that you are going to need more business training, and that you need to work on developing an underlying tenacity behind everything that you do. Success in business doesn’t come out of dumb luck; it comes from knowing what to do, doing it, and sticking to in spite of opposition. What do you think?

Why The Economy Affects Small Business Strategies

success

Is your wedding business struggling to make it? The reality is that most wedding businesses fall into the small business category, and right now, in this economy that means you’re probably struggling to get ahead. While a large business can usually just tweak their advertising techniques and get their sales back up, a small business can’t make such a small change and expect a large improvement.

According to an article by Small Business Trends, the smaller your business is the more drastic steps are going to be required to get your business moving toward success. It isn’t enough to make one or two changes. You have to be willing to re-think everything, every strategy and plan you have, and then re-vamp and change as much as you can in a way that while risky, won’t threaten to sink the boat. What do you think? Are you willing to make the changes necessary for success?

Why Being Optimistic Is Crucial For Success

Happy_Bride_and_GroomIt ends up that finding success in your business is a little more complex than just doing all the right things. Even when you do the right things you are going to find yourself dealing with roadblocks, opposition and problems. The road through that to the other side and success requires you to be able to hold on to the optimistic view that things will get better. Without that view your business is sure to fail.

We’ve all met people that take optimism too far however. These are the idealists who believe that even once their house has been destroyed in a storm that that same house will magically return to them. As S. Anthony Iannarino says in his blog article on the subject “Optimism needs to come with the ability to unflinchingly look reality straight in the eye.” You have to deal with the problems that come along, realize that they can be overcome and find the ways to deal with them.
