How to Attract the Young and Rich to Your Wedding Business

business-man-bond

I recently ran across an article on one of my favorite web sites “Fastcompany.com” having to do with attracting the high end client.  I’m a strong believer in applying lessons (winning strategies) from other industries to the wedding business.
Here’s the breakdown.

Financial firms are being advised by Cisco Systems on how to get more of the under 50 and wealthy.
They narrowed it down to one word..technology.  Now, we have started to use video conferencing ourselves to great success so this post really confirmed our use of this free technology.

Taming the Email Beast

I don’t know about you, but the amount of email heading my way has been increasing non stop.  I’ve taken some measures to cut down on the constant distraction.  Creating some rules like only updating a couple of times a day helped.  Making sure the chime letting me know I have mail turned off.
I liked the idea in this blog post.

The idea of branding can be a bit scary for many owners of a small wedding business. You can break it down into a few points:

1.    Decide what you are.
2.    Get your message out (tell people)
3.    make sure there is consistency in your message
4.    Back up what you say with actions that deliver on the promise in your message

The Death of Old Media

coffee-and-news

Is old media dead?

Not really, but its definitely on life support.  Most of us have come to the conclusion that running an ad in the local newspaper or yellow pages just doesn’t ad up anymore.  I almost feel kind of bad for the yellow page ad salesman who makes his yearly call to me pitching the power and necessity of a an ad in their hallowed tome.

As a side note, I hear this is the last year for the big yellow book.

My condolences.

3 Questions To Transform Your Business In 2011

key-success

Lately I’ve been taking challenges my business faces and writing them down as questions.  By asking yourself the right questions, you’ll be amazed at what that super computer in your head will come up with.  Then take a few minutes to list all the possibilities (no matter how outlandish some may seem) that answer these questions.

  1. How can I solve my customers problems?
  2. How can I be better than my competition?
  3. How can I be more profitable?

I created these 3 questions based on this blog post. You can see how simple it is to convert the challenge into a question.  I strongly encourage you to give this a go, you will be amazed at the results you come up with.

4 Tips for Money-Making Networking Relationships

networking-wedding-business

We know we’re supposed to be networking and building relationships in order to grow our wedding business.  But are we doing it?

It’s really easy to get caught up in the everyday activities of running our business and the urgent (but likely unimportant) phone calls, emails and busy work.  But if we aren’t networking, we’re missing an essential element of business success.

What is “networking” anyway?

Networking is building meaningful, strategic partnerships and relationships with other businesses and wedding professionals.  You can network with other wedding vendors, related businesses, suppliers and even competitors.  The best networking relationship we ever had was with a DJ who was our direct competitor!

The networking relationships you build can send dozens, hundreds or even thousands of referrals.  These are the people who have a constant stream of brides and grooms they can send your way.

How much would you have to pay in bridal advertising to get that kind of referral power?

Relationships are gold.  Check out these 4 awesome networking tips from the Young Entrepreneur blog here: 4 Tips For Power Networking

New Years Resolutions For Your Business

clock

Hopefully most of us take a little time on the first day of the new year to plan a few goals, make a resolution, maybe even commit them to paper.  I recently read that writing your resolutions down gives you about ten times the chance of success.

How about your business?  Don’t you think it deserves the same treatment?
