If you are like me, then you cannot just lay back and fall asleep when there is work to be done and life happening around you.
So if you have a laptop by your side and you are trying to find things to do without leaving that comfortable, warm, bed…
Business As Usual When Sick
Being that my job is very flexible, I have the fortune of being able to take the time I need to slow down, relax and get my work done without stressing out about being sick.
Whenever this happens here is how I keep business as usual going.
The first thing I will do is go through my list of content that I plan on writing and knock out some blog articles. Sometimes while sick I get inspired to write unexpected articles, like this one.
The beautiful thing about this is that you are not going anywhere anyway, and every computer or tablet has some form of text application. So blogging can be done easily from anywhere.
2. Social Marketing
With tools like Buffer, Hootsuite ,etc, it’s easy to schedule and post to social media. When you’re sick there is no excuse to not fill up those queues and get engaging content ready to post.
Heck, if you are up for it – skip the automation and start engaging right away. You do not have to do a Google Plus Hangout of course. No one wants to see you looking at sick (I think), so hop on to Facebook or Pinterest or wherever you spend more of your time and post, answer, ask, and have conversations.
Content marketing and social marketing is not always something you can “wing,” so while you are laying there, open a Google Doc and create an outline for your next marketing campaign.
Prep that new AdWords or AdCenter campaign or get the Mailchimp or Aweber auto responders finished.
Again, you are not going anywhere, so knock out the tedious stuff you might have put off otherwise.
4. Read Up
One of the best things you can do to improve your business is to read up on how to improve your business. I highly recommending taking out that Kindle, iPad or Nook and reading either Poke the Box by Seth Godin or Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook by Gary Vaynerchuk.
Both of those books will educate and inspire you to do more, do it better and “Crush It”.
5. Online Education
Online education is everywhere with websites like Lynda, Udemy, Craftsy and so many others. Many online courses are free but there are also many others that charge.
How much is improving your business worth? Only you can be the judge. Check out some of the online education websites to see what you can learn from your bed.
6. Tech Support
If you are on a small team, like I am at Photocrati, then there might be times where you help out in tech support even if your daily job is marketing. It happens to the best of us.
So if you have checked everything off your list, why not hop into the support box to lend a hand? I am sure your coworkers would appreciate that. At Photocrati we create WordPress photography themes, so tech support can technically be provided from anywhere.
7. Website Tweaks
Last, but definitely not least, are website tweaks. Every website can be approved whether it is a simple SEO tweak, a change to your WordPress galleries, content improvement for better readability, or site structure improvements.
Try adding a heatmap or check Google Analytics for potential website tweaks that can help improve your business. One of my favorite sites for researching potential website improvements is Moz.com.
So there you have it – 7 things you can do for business as usual when you’re sick.
What do you do while you’re sick? Please comment to share.
