The 7 Deadly Mistakes of Wedding Vendors That Can Destroy Your Business

I talk to wedding vendors almost every day.  They are my clients, my peers, and my friends.  Lately I’ve been searching for the answer to one thing…

What makes the difference between the wedding vendors who PROSPER during difficult economic times and the ones who SUFFER?

Jeff, full of compassion as he is, likes to say this is, “Darwin kicking in.”  In other words, it’s Survival of the Fittest where only the strong survive.

That answer just doesn’t cut it for me.  I had to go deeper, and we discovered something fascinating…

Success vs. Failure

When you analyze it, the difference between the wedding vendors who “get it” and the ones who don’t is pretty darn clear.

It turns out that the wedding vendors who prosper, the ones who “get it,” are doing some very specific things that position them for continued success, regardless of the economic condition.

And the wedding vendors who don’t “get it”…unfortunately, this is too many of them…are struggling because they AREN’T doing those things.

We’ve identified the 7 specific mistakes that can threaten your business, the 7 Deadly Mistakes of Wedding Businesses that leave you vulnerable to the uncertain economy in our brand new video.

Why You Need To See Your Business Like Your Brides See It

There is a lot of pressure in business to “get ahead.” While you do want to build a successful wedding business, you also need to take time to switch from looking at your business from the perspective of business owner to the perspective of a client. You might do great at what you do, and might have the highest quality product, but that isn’t all that a bride sees.

I’ve run into some business owners who thought they were the best people on the planet and ran their business in the best possible way. The problem is that often they are making at least one serious mistake in how they dealt with their clients.

When you write an email take a minute to think about what you would think if you received that email from someone else. Does it make sense? Is it succinct and easy to understand? Do you sound nice, or are you coming across as snippy? Apply this same process to everything you do. No matter how great of a person you are it is possible to make a mistake in the way that you handle something in a way that will turn people off. How To Handle It When You Make A Mistake In Your Wedding Business

PanickingMistakes happen. This is something that I remind myself of over and over when something goes wrong. Making a mistake just means that you are human, that you are learning and it is a good reminder that you aren’t superman.

Instead of letting the mistake freak you out and make you want to hit your head against a brick wall (which won’t help anything) give yourself time to react, calm down and then think through what went wrong, why it went wrong, and how to keep it from happening again. It is your humanity which builds relationships and allows brides to connect with you so when mistakes happen be glad that they happened, learn from them and move forward. Make sure to read the article by Margaret Heffernan on celebrating mistakes that you make. What do you think?
