Are You Positioning Your Wedding Business Against Competitors?

I often find myself wondering why companies that offer essentially the same service for the same price can have such a large marginal difference between the numbers of customers they have. Why do clients pick one over the other and insist that it is the better company?

Bridget Svenson who is a Social Media Marketing Intern for Bride Attraction, writes about how it is essential for wedding businesses to position themselves in the mind of their customers. They should have a distinct message that sets their company apart from the competition.

Find a way to avoid positioning your wedding business in a way that can easily be copied. Is your position that your business provides excellent customer service, while planning an amazing dream wedding? If it is then you have a problem as that is likely to be your competitor’s song too.

The key is to really get to know your company, what it stands for and what it offers that is different. Once you figure this out then you can market your wedding business and your clients will be able to distinguish you from the rest of your competitors.

Permission Marketing-The Future of Online Marketing?

angry-bride
Whats the best way to define permission marketing? Lets look at the opposite first, spam! We all pretty much hate it, we all have to deal with it.  It jams up your in box, often is infected with all kinds of nasty bugs.  You didn’t ask for it, it wasn’t invited in to your life.

Permission marketing changes this equation.  You invited it, you are actually interested in it (at least the “ethical bribe” that got you to opt in!).
Why did you give your email to a particular site? Was it access to information..
maybe a special report or the ability to post a comment?

In the end, they got to market to you because you gave them permission.

Got it?

Free Advertising: Pitching The Press

coffee-and-news

I’m a huge fan of free advertising.  Press releases are a powerful “free” way to get PR. Admittedly, I have not taken advantage of this medium anywhere near the level I should.

Time for a public declaration.

“In 2011, I will take full advantage of the power of press releases!”

Not Exactly Dressed To Impress

fail-stamp

There are all kinds of business awards given out each year.  Some for outstanding performance, design achievement, great acts of humanitarians healing the world..and then there is Mark Zuckerberg.

Esquire magazine named him one of the 10 worst-dressed guys of 2010 in their “2010 Celebrity Style Hall of Shame” list.

I guess if I was a  twenty something billionaire I probably wouldn’t give a crap either.

Greed is Good..No Really!

girl-with-cash

“Greed is good”.  Iconic words spoken by the famous fictional character, Gordon Gekko in the movie Wall Street. At first blush, these words come across pretty hard core, like a smack in the head.

I ran across a blog post by Daniel Hoang where he points out that Gekko actually isn’t  really saying greed is good.  There is actually a message of empowerment through ownership.

So yeah, greed might be good.

6 Essential Traits of Small Business Owners

key-success

What makes you an entrepreneur while your best friend is an employee?  Are you really that different?  Some of us have definite differences for risk tolerances.  Its just to scary to go out on your own.  Personally, I worked a lot of years for “the man” and know for myself, that something was always missing till I struck out on my own.  Staying a subordinate was much more scary than rolling the dice and doing my own thing.

There are essential traits to being cutout for successful self employment.

How to Attract the Young and Rich to Your Wedding Business

business-man-bond

I recently ran across an article on one of my favorite web sites “Fastcompany.com” having to do with attracting the high end client.  I’m a strong believer in applying lessons (winning strategies) from other industries to the wedding business.
Here’s the breakdown.

Financial firms are being advised by Cisco Systems on how to get more of the under 50 and wealthy.
They narrowed it down to one word..technology.  Now, we have started to use video conferencing ourselves to great success so this post really confirmed our use of this free technology.

Taming the Email Beast

emailing-brides

I don’t know about you, but the amount of email heading my way has been increasing non stop.  I’ve taken some measures to cut down on the constant distraction.  Creating some rules like only updating a couple of times a day helped.  Making sure the chime letting me know I have mail turned off.
I liked the idea in this blog post.

Reducing Email Intake
