Free Infographic: Brides on Pinterest

I unearthed some interesting Pinterest stats the other day that reveal why you should seriously consider using Pinterest to promote your wedding business.

I know, I know.  Just what we need: another social media platform to hang ourselves from.

While I don’t recommend chasing every new kid on the block, Pinterest is worth a look…especially for wedding photographers, videographers and planners.  Use that photo, video and decor inspiration to show off your expertise and win over those brides!

Check out this handy-dandy little infographic that makes the data a little more fun to look at.

Pinterest Factology

  • Pinterest has over 11.7 million unique monthly US visitors.

  • 80% of Pinterest users are women.

  • The most popular age group on Pinterest is 25-34 year olds.

  • Women are five times more likely to use Pinterest and almost twice as likely to be college-educated.

  • 69% of online consumers who visit Pinterest have discovered an item they’ve bought or want to buy, compared with only 40% of Facebook users.

  • Pinterest referrals spend 70% more money than visitors referred from non-social channels.

Statistics courtesy of Huffington Post and TechCrunch.

If your target brides include affluent, college educated women age 25-34, there’s a really good chance, a really, really good chance, you can find them on Pinterest.

Urgent Pinterest Update for Wedding Pros

Just last week Pinterest introduced a new feature you need to know about: Pinterest business accounts.

While there really aren’t any benefits to having a “business” account versus a “personal” one right now, if you’re already using your Pinterest account for your business, you need to convert it to a business account as soon as possible.

Here’s why:

Pinterest updated their terms of service to now require that any account being used for commercial purposes must be a business account.

That means, just like with Facebook, that if you’re using your personal account for business purposes, they can shut you down. It’s not likely they’re going to do that any time soon…it wouldn’t be very fair since they just made the announcement…but if you value your Pinterest account, I’d say it’s better safe than sorry.

How to Convert to a Pinterest Business Account

  1. Go to this link and login to your Pinterest account.
  2. Follow the instructions to fill in your company name and type of business.
  3. Hit “save” and you’re all set!

Keep your eyes on Pinterest for what comes next. The stats report (depending on the source) that 80-97% of Pinterest users are women, and wedding planning is one of the top uses for Pinterest.

The brides are there, and with the new addition of Pinterest business accounts, it’s likely that you’ll be able to purchase advertising or perhaps even “sponsored pins” in the future to promote your wedding business even more effectively.

I’m dying to know… Are you using Pinterest for your wedding business? What do you think about it?

Tracking Results Might Not Be Your Cup Of Tea But It Needs To Be

One of the things that has really turned small businesses off regarding marketing via social media is the fact that there has been no way to really track the true return on investment. Anytime you have a small business, wedding or otherwise, you time and money is sacred and it’s important to make sure that what you are doing for marketing is actually working. Great news from Sarah Perez in her article is that there is a new tool called Ohtootay which can actually track your social media marketing efforts, all the way to your website.

I don’t know about you, but when I spend time and money on marketing it really bugs me if I don’t see immediate results, often before the marketing has the time to actually start working. While being over anxious to try different things to find something that works isn’t a good thing (it can actually kill all your marketing efforts eventually), you do need to track your marketing result stats. A good marketing plan usually will take several weeks before you start seeing the real results, but when you are dealing with social media sometimes the results take even longer to show up.

Remember that brides spend a lot of time trying to decide what business to go with, and this is after they start learning what it actually takes to plan a wedding. Give your marketing time to start getting results, and make sure you are tracking results to make sure you are using the best marketing for your business.

Pinterest. It’s Where Your Brides Are. Get Used to It! Here’s How.

by Amber Ambrose, Destination Wedding Planner, Blue Sky Ceremony

According to a recent survey 83% of women polled trust Pinterest over Facebook and Twitter. The social media landscape is changing, again, are you ready? If you just sighed out loud and said no, then this quick how-to guide on Pinterest will help you get ready. Warning: Pinterest is very addictive.

What is Pinterest?

Pinterest is a pin board-style social photo sharing website that allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections such as events, interests, hobbies, and more. Users can browse other pin boards for inspiration, ‘re-pin’
images to their own collections or ‘like’ photos.

How Are Your Brides Using It?

Once they set up an account, through connecting to Facebook or Twitter, brides can set up pin-boards. These can be used to organize dress styles, invitation ideas, decoration suggestions, and even locations for honeymoons. This method
is done uniquely through posting images.

For example, if a bride saw a dress on a website she doesn’t want to forget, she will click Add Pin, put in the link and it will upload the image for her to any board she selects. This method helps brides conceptualize what her wedding will look like before the big day in an organized efficient manner.

Another great way that brides use Pinterest is to research new ideas through the search bar on the top left of the page. They can search on anything, and I mean anything. For example they could put in purple wedding shoes, click search, and over 300 different styles of purple wedding shoes will pop up. Then she can re-pin this idea to her own board.

How You Can Use Pinterest

It’s always important to be a resource to your customer. One suggestion is to set up different boards for different wedding themes. On each board, post images from the weddings you have helped with, linking back to your website. This
will not only help get a bride to your website but will provide you website with incredible link-backs, pushing you further up the SEO chain.

And one final suggestion is to use this tool to help your bride visualize her wedding. Set up a new board for each bride you are about to cater to. Then you two can sit down, post ideas together, and weed out what she likes and doesn’t
like.

Have you jumped the hurdle and tried Pinterest? Would love to know your thoughts.

Amber was born and raised on St. Thomas in the beautiful Virgin Islands.  As a resident of the island, her and her husband Mike, work side by side at Blue Sky Ceremony to help make every bride’s wedding day dreams come true.
