Believe it or not, there are right and wrong ways to build links. It all depends on what you need those links to do. Most of us start out with whatever the business name is, and then name pages generically. Pete Caputa advises businesses to move beyond that initial step and to build links that will be proactive in building your business.

First of all, when you are building your links you should be building them in a way that is Search Engine Optimized (SEO) which is done through keyword optimization. Instead of naming each of your collections of wedding pictures “Sam and Ann 2006” and having your link mirror that name, think of things that will draw visitors to your site.

From there you will need to enter the world of building links TO your site. This increases traffic, and boosts your Google ranking according to Pete Caputa.
